Alumni Association of 1916

Taken from the 1916 yearbook, the "Mango".

Dr. R. L. Holt..............................................................President
Norma Lee..................................................................Secretary
Reynaud Stroube........................................................Treasurer

The Alumni Association of Mangum High School was organized March 29, 1910, although the first graduating class was of the year 1903. The membership of the association at the organization was 43, which has increased to a number of 170 including the Class of 1916. This figure does not include honorary members, who are limited to past and present High School Superintendents and Principals. Current teachers of the High School are upon election by the association, members thereof.

"Auld Lang Syne" is the motto of the Association, and it expresses the fellowship and purpose of its organization. The flower is Cape jasmine, and Maroon and White are the colors.

The constitution provides for two meetings a year, the Regular Meeting on the first Friday in March, and the Annual Meeting on the morning of Commencement Day. A movement is on foot to provide for another Social Meeting to be held during Xmas holidays when the graduates come home for their vacation, which will undoubtedly add to the value of the Association and to the pleasure of the Alumni of the school.

Annual Banquets are held annually on the evening next following Commencement, and the new graduates are of course guests. The banquet is one of the biggest school events of the year, and the attendance at every banquet has been surprisingly large. Both the banquets and the meetings bring home a large gathering of the alumni to renew the old school spirit and have abundantly justified the organization of the Alumni Association, which has been a spirited success from the start.

The object of the Association is well stated in the preamble to the Constitution, which reads: "We the Alumni of the Mangum High School, in order to preserve the good fellowship of old school days and to revive their pleasures and experiences, to provide for our personal enjoyment in company with old schoolmates in times to come, and to foster and further the best interests of our school, do hereby establish this constitution."

The finances of the Association have never fallen behind its debts. A banquet fee of $1.00 is charged; an annual membership fee of 25 cents and an assessment of not more than 25 cents annually provide for all revenues.
